Inspired by water, this painting is a dramatically thin pour of blue metallic paint contrasted over darker blue brushed paint. I like to paint with movement that brings back distant, archaic memories. My paintings express this through color and how the paint and texture feel. My aim is to make pictures that are more about those memories and the philosophy about them than realistic and figurative expression. I get my inspiration from old things and ideas—caves, stone, archaic stories. So, in my painting, I sometimes build layers upon each other, and sometimes layers are taken away. In this process, color is the focus. Each layer is its own, free, and personal piece, kind of like an historical story of its own. Recently, I started a style that I am highly attracted to. The paintings are vertical. Strong in color and presence. I do these paintings from philosophical points of view. They show what we’re dreaming of and the paths along the way to achieving the dream. I am pleased when people take the time to look at and think about these paintings as each has a unique story for each person.
