Having grown up in Africa, or anywhere for that matter, one would soon learn of the king of the jungle. I witnessed several Lions in my life, but one scene would never leave me. I was 8 years old, in Kruger Park, when an old Elephant died, Lions soon arrived to feast on the carcass. When we arrived it was carnage. Fifteen to twenty lions where on the scene walking into the carcass, completely covered in blood. Hyenas would not dare get any closer, neither did the vultures. though they were waiting patiently while the lions took turns to eat the soft flesh from the inside. if you've ever heard a Lion roar fairly close to you? the vibration hits you square in the chest scaring the living out of you. They say, if you encounter a Lion on foot, it is better to chase at it screaming, than to turn your back and run. Can you imagine the courage it would take to do that? Lions are Kings and Queens of the jungle for many reasons. Every human on the planet know about the Lion. The power, elegance, and the playfulness. As our world is shrinking, so is the space for Lions. They get bred for canned Lion hunting, and humans don't treat them with the respect and honor they deserve. lets protect these magnificent beasts. My aim with this piece is to show the calm elegance of Lions. A feeling of longing, patients and wonder, while the bright, yet subtle colors uplift emotions making it a fun, yet powerful piece. The style and colors are also suitable for modern spaces, and a verity of viewers and ages to enjoy. We all relate to lions, the heart of a lion, the Lion inside of us. Lion heart.
