SHIPPING AND RETURNS

I did this work out of a sudden inspiration for change. The colours are set like in a landscape painting with vibrant plants. However, the picture shows two people taking. I used graphite, crayon and pastel to define some of the structures and hope that the viewer takes some time to find the figures...

About the Artist

Barbara Kuebel

Austria

My works are inspired by a very personal perception of situations. I create live sized figures in monochrome colours to reduce myself to what counts and what is necessary. The line is the most important carrier of information and I use my cutting tools for the woodcuts the same way I would use a pencil. When talking about the practical background I stress that I am inspired by sculpturing and I compare woodcut the way I do it as THE printing technique which is closest to three-dimensional art. The subject matter starts from the idea of a knot, where two parts can be combined to a construct in endless ways. The area of the wood for that reason is mostly constant - I also reduce myself in this sense to a defined unit.
