With this painting I tried to paint the silence: it's a red planet where it's all quiet and it's all still. There's no sign of life except for a tornado that soon will destroy everything. A temple falling apart, where there are only some stones and some guardians left. A defeated king in the middle of a checkmate. A last hug before the end. A marble column breaks in two and falls down in silence. A silence that is a sensation of infinite loss, like a maimed who still feels his phantom limb and he knows he'll never get it back. This surrealist oil on canvas talks is part of the story told in the collection "The lands where we loved", inspired by the styles of De Chirico and Dali, two of my favourite painters. In this collection the characters don't have a specific gender: they are androgynous to be close to the lgbt ideal of love, a modern vision that tells that love is born between people and not between genders. The compass is one of the leitmotifs of the series.
