Looking at the migration crisis around the world I noticed that humanity has been moving around the globe on boats since time began. It is nothing new. I have been painting symbolic boats and sails for the last two years to acknowledge this human phenomenon.

About the Artist

Robert Koenig

United Kingdom

Born in Manchester England. Secondary education at a Polish Boarding School in Paris, France. Currently live in Brighton, UK. Work in public and private collections including Art Council of GB. I make sculpture, with wood being the dominant material. It is carved and constructed. I use colour a lot in my sculptures. I am now producing a series of paintings on canvas and wood. I was a contemporary of Anthony Gormley at the Slade School of Art in the 1970's in London. I have been using colour in my artwork for 40 years, ever since my days at the Slade where the professors would talk about me as the "best painter in the sculpture department".
