Kelly Durieu was born in a family of textile industrials, where already young of age she met several local and international known artists. Her love for art and design makes her take up the study for interior architect in the renowned St Lucas institute for Architecture in Ghent. Her first steps in drawing and painting are a fact. She concludes the study successfully and immediately starts her professional career as an industrial designer for interior, textile and carpets. Later she completes her formation at the Royal Academy for Arts in Kortrijk. In her work Kelly Durieu is inspired by her education and professional experience. Main themes are buildings, rooms, places or landscapes. Ground tone is always enigma and marvel. The buildings and emplacements always carry their own history, where the spectator is invited to create his own story. The situation is always enigmatic and puzzling. The story does not reveal what is, or has been. The characters are suggesting questions. A mysterious situation, a face turned away or an undefined glance. Always with great craftsmanship and a lot of respect for color and light.
