Large format works on canvas of mixed media, mostly oil paint. They are characterized by dense compositions, which are sometimes difficult to grasp with our eyes if we look too briefly. When we take a closer look we can see that the seeming chaos consists of very expressive but also carefully worked out beautiful combinations of color and form. These are paintings which need to be viewed from both, far and near. It’s wonderful to look from a distance to appreciate the whole composition and it is fascinating to contemplate the fragments and study how they merge into a complex but thoroughly planned work. These are truly contemplative paintings, we can lose sight in them for hours and still each time discover something new. Formal experiments, juxtaposition of colors, traces, dispersions, discontinuities, collisions, noise of expression, transitions from abstraction to figurativeness, motifs repeated in several paintings such as words, inscriptions, symbols or figures. One may find the occasional quotations from culture, the history of painting or the life of the artist. But easy interpretations are not offered even once the references are found. All the associations and circumstantial readings are welcome. It’s important to not be afraid to look and see. Speaking and writing about paintings is an act of courage and an effort made in spite of everything, to speak about what is impossible to express. It requires endeavor and attempts to open up the poetic possibilities of language and also to ensure that the starting and the ending point is silence. The painting doesn’t work through reason and doesn’t matter how it works, as long as it does.
