ABOUT THE ARTWORK

These birds were only in this tree for about 30 seconds - then all took off at once. I especially love the texture of the bark of the tree - it's a white/light, paper-like bark that is peeling and delicate. The texture of the bark, the graphic nature of the birds and the tree - looks like a drawing! To me, this image means community. As with all of my images - there is very little, if any, processing done in the computer after the image is taken. Hand numbered and signed on the reverse of the print. Printed on fine art Torchon paper which has a deeply textured surface similar to watercolor paper.

I was born in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1967. After graduating from Vassar College I had a career as a financial advisor during the .com boom of the 90's. After 9/11, I moved with my family to Wilmington NC and created a completely new life centered around my work as a professional musician, photographer and woodworker. My instincts trend toward abstraction and I take my inspiration from abstract expressionism and street photography. My ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) work attempts to keep the "subject" of the image a mystery while simply capturing the interplay of light, shadow and form that are present in a particular scene. I primarily shoot with a digital camera but employ very little, if any, computer processing to the photo after it has been taken. As for awards and exhibitions, etc...I have received plenty but I don't feel the need to catalog this recognition in some attempt at legitimacy. Art is valid or it's not - regardless of previous accolades.
