About The Artwork

This is a Deckled Edge Print on high quality Cotton Photo Rag Paper
Deckled edge prints have a gorgeously feathered edge which makes them feel as though you have just discovered them between the pages of a long-lost, antique book. Printed on archival, matte cotton rag paper which will last for decades, deckled edge prints have a slightly textured surface that is a joy to touch. Photo is entitled "A Darkness Follows Me" and is a limited edition print in this size This photo was taken outside the town of Columbia PA. in Lancaster County Pennsylvania - during the American Civil War, this area was part of the underground railroad. These woods hold the remnants of the trails used by slaves moving north toward freedom. Three of these hand-made paths made their way through this section of Lancaster County. The county's location along the Mason-Dixon line, its residents' devotion to freedom, and its proximity to other free Northern states made it ideal as a pathway to freedom. Many of the so called "fugitives" made their way to Columbia, others crossed the Susquehanna River into Southern Lancaster County at Peach Bottom, and still others followed a path that lead them along the Octoraro Creek in the eastern portion of the county. Regardless the path, their destination was often Christiana and eventually, Philadelphia or Canada. Even with all the beauty this place holds you can still feel some of the fear, and darkness of it's past but with that there is also the sense of hope they must have felt as they moved closer to freedom. This photo is dedicated to those people and to our country that came out of that great conflict.
