ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I recently had the good fortune to acquire a massive tangle of ivy harvested by a landscaper friend of mine. It arrived tattered but whole and was evocative of a grand cape or robe. I worked on the piece for several weeks at the studio, patching holes with extra ivy, weaving it into the fabric, trying to match the ordered chaos of the natural weave. I also sewed the edges and neckline of the robe, giving it shape and making it more garment-like. My goal, as always, was to embed my model into the landscape and to capture her ease and beauty there. While coaching my model during the shoot for this piece, I asked her to "survey her kingdom," because she looked absolutely regal in that setting.
