Marc Santos is a photographer whose work tests conventional ideas of clarity and focus. He creates blurred images that evoke a sense of motion, emotion, and mystery. His photographs capture an expanded reality with more than one moment in time. Marc's approach is one of organic improvisation within the structures of emotion, identity, and time. By keeping the figures anonymous, Marc invites the viewer to imagine what it might feel like to perform the movement themselves. His work reflects reality since the lines from motion were completely created and recorded in the moment. The motion and the bodies of the dancers have not been altered. Dancers often expressed to him that during performances they imagined lines and shapes hanging in the air, and they hoped the audience would be able to see them as well. Attempting to hold these shapes within a static frame gives his work it’s recognizable grace and form. b.1974 New York, USA. Marc received his first camera at age seven from his father, who was also a photographer. Marc also trained as a jazz musician and performed on saxophone for many years. His additional experience as a stagehand allowed Marc to meet and work with dancers across all disciplines. Aspects of these three realms can be found in all of his work. Marc's work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and internationally, and is held in several private collections.
