Corona Heights, Eureka Valley Soft Morning Light Cityscape, San Francisco 1990, Diptych 1 The Castro District, commonly referenced as The Castro, is a neighborhood in Eureka Valley in San Francisco. The Castro was one of the first gay neighborhoods in the United States. Having transformed from a working class neighborhood through the 1960s and 1970s, the Castro remains one of the most prominent symbols of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender activism and events in the world. Eureka Valley is a neighborhood in San Francisco, California. It is primarily a quiet residential neighborhood but boasts one of the most visited sub-neighborhoods in the city, The Castro. The neighborhood is popular with families and the LGBT community. It was initially a working-class Irish neighborhood until a combination of factory jobs loss and the migration of gays into The Castro radically changed the neighborhood in the 1960s. In 1977, this district elected the first openly gay politician, Harvey Milk to public office (San Francisco Board of Supervisors). The neighborhood is located within Central San Francisco and is defined by the city’s Planning Department as a larger “Castro/Upper Market” neighborhood. The only official definition of neighborhoods in San Francisco is by the city’s Planning Department, which defines a larger “Castro - Upper Market” neighborhood. The definition of Eureka Valley by the Castro - Eureka Valley Neighbors Association as well as a 2007 Planning Department study is: Sanchez Street on the east, 22nd Street on the south, Twin Peaks on the west, and Duboce Avenue on the north with Noe Valley to the south and Mission District to the east. It encompasses several micro neighborhoods including The Castro and Duboce Triangle.

I've had a creative impulse from a young age. My art is a means of self expression and to create images that I can revisit and enjoy. Inspiration is not something I can quantify. My artwork recreates a mood or a feeling, I also like making purely decorative images. Hopefully other's enjoy my artwork.
