Cypress Whispers Print

A photographer friend invited me to his home in Louisiana to photograph in the swamps there. We arose around 3am every morning and loaded into his boat, making our way through the bayous in the dark. When we arrived at this spot, he told me it was his favorite sunrise spot. It didn't take long to see why. The waters of Lake Maurepas were still, reflecting the cypress trees all around us. The sky slowly began to glow, first just a twilight blue, before the horizon began to glow a soft orange and the clouds took on a pink hue. The mist hung around the trees just above the water, giving the whole scene an ethereal mood. We stepped into the water from the boat, waist-deep, set up our tripods and cameras, and I made this image as one of my first of the morning.
