ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I love it when landscapes are lit with colored gels. Another hidden world emerges. This image is from a new series of photographs captured at the San Diego Botanic Gardens Lightscape event (December 2022). The new works exude a wondrous surrealistic landscape. Natural settings become otherworldly, alien, and fantastical. A portion of the series becomes more abstract. Photographic images can be intermixed or presented as a series with the same subject. I'm happy with this series of work. I was craving a new visual journey after years of hardship, death, and devastation. This traveling light show allowed me to dive into another realm of possibility in my work and life. I hope the new work injects the same wonder and magic I felt when witnessing the illuminated beauty in person. SIDE NOTE: Digital Jungle Moonlight and Romance are unique images in this new series of photographs. The actual color of the gel used to illuminate the plants was a deep red. The use of digital manipulation generated an array of color combinations, muted color hues, and temperatures that changed the emotional response to the subject matter and composition. Enjoy!
