Born 1949 New York City. MFA Queens College, past experience as printmaking instructor, exhibited locally with several awards for my etchings and engravings. Currently a full time government employee, taking occasional time off to make some pictures and show at local library exhibits. Most recently - - 2nd prize for graphics, White Plains juried art fair and a single person exhibit at Hewlett Woodmere Public Library of recent prints and photos. My initial experience was as a printmaker, making mostly black and white engravings and etchings, images range from realistic to surreal. It became difficult to maintain a bulky etching press with inks and acids around little kids, so I started to look around for an alternate way of making my pictures. Now I use a computer to obtain a similar effect - drawing lines and painting tones, striving for realistic figures, evocative images, elegant lines, dark shadows and rich textures. I work only from my own original sketches and photos. I hope to capture something meaningful in the people and places I draw. Influences range from Rembrandt, Durer, Redon, Daumier, Whistler, Hopper, and Walt Kelly (Pogo cartoonist). Lately I have also exhibited some of my photographs, both digital and film photography. With a camera, I am also looking for something unusual, uncommon, a little different in the people and places I shoot.
