ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I took this photo late into the Milky Way season as it rose over the Gulf of Mexico. Almost all of the gulf coast in Florida is awash in light pollution. Even on a cloudless night, the Milky Way appears to be a thin wispy cloud. It's only after filtering out the light pollution that the galactic core is revealed. The existing light pollution from the city behind me lit up the foreground during the exposure. It was interesting to see the manufactured path, moving the traveler away from the galactic way. I can almost feel our tiny world drifting through the "great enveloping cosmic dark." For me, there is no more humbling experience. I want to remind the viewer how small humankind is in my landscape work. How important that we try to be kinder to each other and to this world we live in. We are just a collection of stories at the end; we only need to make them good ones. Captured on September 21st, 2018, 11:38 PM - 16x20 Metal Print
