I came to photography somewhat late in life when I spontaneously decided to take on a 365 project in 2010 - taking photographs every day and publishing them on my blog: avantgarden365. That project changed my life. I'm now known primarily for tranquil, contemplative nature images. My artistic process involves a curious and open exploration of my surroundings. I create spontaneously without any preconceived ideas about what will emerge. This way of seeing reveals the transcendent beauty of ordinary subject matter that can be easily overlooked. My background in Art History is an integral part of my vision. Through the practice of close-looking, I developed a unique eye for details and a sensitivity for recognizing formal visual elements. Being fully immersed in art through my studies as well as a college job at Walker Art Center gave me a vast mental library of visual material and an expansive idea of what art can be. Everything is worthy of consideration. I live in South Minneapolis with my husband, son & daughter and extra-large dog. Most of my images come from a small area around our home.
