About The Artwork

This work combines a thoroughly degraded photograph of a flag, manipulated through processes to remove information, with the words, "Friendly Fire" rendered in a style mimicking the "squeegee" effect of a screen print. When elements are presented together, the mind links them. It assumes association, and builds pathways of meaning. How do we know when those assumptions are correct? Are elements presented together necessarily linked? Is meaning inherent in an image, or is it imbued into the image by the viewer? I'll show you my meaning if you show me yours. This work is available as an open edition print in various sizes and media.

Chris Horner is a Los Angeles-based multi-disciplinary artist working in photographic and digital media. Originally trained as a writer, Chris has spent the past ten years blurring the boundary between text and image. Chris’s work explores the information-saturated experience of being extremely online--incorporating screenshots, photographs, marketing slogans, song lyrics, film stills, original texts and more into a net-art phantasmagoria. In addition to exhibiting work at San Francisco’s Get High on Mountains Gallery, and being published in UK-based Lazy Oaf Magazine, Chris has self-published multiple photo books, including Cash for Gold, Rock Paper Scissors, and Social Anxiety.
