ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This photo was taken at the Serranía de Hornocal, which is a range of mountains in Jujuy, Argentina. The mountains reach an altitude of 4,761 meters (15,620 ft) above sea level and extends from Salta, Argentina, through the Argentine Quebrada de Humahuaca, and then through the Bolivian Altiplano to Peru. The region Quebrada de Humahuaca was declared a World Heritage Site. I was inspired by its beauty and by the 14 colors that can be seen on the mountains. This is part of a series.

Pat Sila was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At a young age he was introduced to photography by two of his uncles. He would occasionally helped them out in the darkroom, or posed as a model at improvised home sets, which started giving him a sense on how to see light and how it affects a subject. At the age of 13 he moved with his family to Miami, Fl. By the age of 17 he regained his interest in photography after receiving a camera and a couple of lenses from his father. He enrolled in a photography course in College, and set up his own darkroom in his house. Even though he earned a degree in business administration, he simultaneously took several courses in art and photography, and kept shooting, developing and printing his own material. Throughout the years he kept his hobby and never stopped shooting: family reunions, portraits, street photos, he even took his camera on vacations to take pictures instead of snapshots. It was in 2013 when he decided to dedícate himself full time to his passion, working in different fields of photography.
