ICM #101 Print - Limited Edition of 10

About the series: I've begun work on a monsoon series of ICM works in Mumbai for the 2022 season centering around people in the streets. Contrary to how some artists may portray such themes as rain as dark and dreary days, I'm taking the opposite approach: I'm shooting for color. When you work with very slow shutter speeds there's a lot more light (and time) to extract color from the environment. What little color that is there I make good use of in how I ultimately portray my subjects. About this image: I'm a street photographer to the core, meaning that I've several years of experience interacting with and photographing strangers in public spaces. I walk with my camera in front of me, always ready. Many of my subjects, like the gentleman featured here, probably aren't aware that I was taking a picture. That's my intention. I shoot in silent mode and act as casual as possible, always hiding in plain sight. As a foreigner in India, I have very little time to size up a subject and take a picture before I'm spotted and any notion of a "natural scene" is disturbed by my very presence. Most of my images are shot quickly. When it comes to post-processing, however, there is nothing quick about it. My ICM works require a lot of post-processing to achieve the look I want. Ultimately, I want to feel something when I'm finished. I want to be drawn in, and if possible, become lost in the aesthetic.
