ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The economic crisis in the Euro zone has generated a youth unemployment rate in Spain of over 50% generating a situation that pushes many of these young people to make the decision to undertake a narrow road to other borders where to find a decent life that is denied in his own country, but becomes sometimes in a fleeting or distant dream because of the culture shock and difficulties as the language difference, in the majority of cases only gives access to unskilled and low-paid jobs, making it vanish hopes to access to those opportunities that people expected to find on their trip to a foreign country, finding out a harder reality than they had imagined. The way to make a space for yourself in a different society it becomes distressing and oppressive though there are always moments to reflect and grow as an individual.

David Macias, born in Valencia, Spain in 1981 The artistic praxis, allows me to tackle socio-cultural issues from a critical stance, reflecting on art as a tool that promotes the activation of thoughts around situations that have a nexus of relationships based on the division of society into classes, focusing on how affect decisions and processes that are carried out from the hegemonic power to the other layers of society, emphasizing the issues that generate a latent inequality between them. For this I use different ways to approach each topic but always from the photographic way.
