Aaron M. Thompson is a multidisciplinary artist originally from Carmel, California, whose work bridges immersive installation, painting, found materials, and environmental storytelling. After spending decades creating and exhibiting work in New York City’s Lower East Side art scene, Thompson now lives and works in Asheboro, North Carolina, where he continues evolving his creative vision through his studio space known as the Enchanted Forest. Since the late 1990s, Thompson’s work has centered on transforming overlooked spaces into experiences of color, light, imagination, and reflection. In New York, he founded art.les.nyc studios, an artist-driven collaborative space built from abandoned urban environments and fueled by a belief that art should remain accessible, immersive, and alive within the community. His installations combined paint, sculpture, reclaimed materials, light, and architecture to create interactive worlds that blurred the line between fantasy and reality. Today, that same spirit continues through his current body of work. While his practice has become more focused on painting and mixed media, the heart of the work remains the same: building emotional environments that invite viewers to slow down, reconnect, and experience wonder within everyday life. Drawing from both the raw energy of New York and the quiet atmosphere of rural North Carolina, Thompson’s work balances chaos and beauty, memory and transformation. His paintings often explore texture, movement, layered symbolism, and organic forms—creating spaces that feel both deeply personal and universally human.
