The inspiration for this photo came from aerial shots of large cities that reveal a stark divide between the rich and the poor. I used 28 printed circuit (PC) boards to create the image. A framed 40" x 50" print of this image was exhibited in the School of the Photographic Arts (SPAO) (2021), and the City of Ottawa's Corridor 45|75 Gallery (July-Oct 2023) in Ottawa, Canada. The photograph was taken with a Hasselblad Medium format camera and is highly detailed, providing hours of viewing pleasure.

Christopher Schmitt is a lens-based artist residing in Ottawa, on unceded Anishinaabe territory. His work explores disruptive technologies and the impact they have on the networks of our minds, and on our land. Schmitt’s work examines the idea that perhaps this dark side is not a mirror reflection of our society, but rather a new world entirely. His work helps viewers navigate between abstraction and reality, providing visual clues to this uncertain virtual landscape. Schmitt was the recipient of a City of Ottawa Creation and Production Grant in 2022, an Ontario Arts Council Exhibition Assistance Grant in 2023. His photographs have been published in PhotoEd (Spring/Summer 2022, Winter 2023), Do It For the Grain, Ottawa Private Art Label (OPAL), and have been purchased by the City of Ottawa.
