Melodies From Bankhead Print - Limited Edition of 10

I took this photo of my friend Rayn who is a harpist and artist from the westside of Atlanta. We drove around the bankhead area of Atlanta and decided to pose outside of this corner store with her playing the harp. I thought the juxtaposition of a harp in the middle of this rough neighborhood was powerful. Many people may assume these two things couldn't go together - a harpist wouldn't be in this neighborhood. But whats most powerful is that Rayn is from this neighborhood and learned to play the harp from a teacher in this neighborhood. We chose this store because its where she would get snacks from after school on her way to harp lessons. These experiences are common in the black community. There's always uniqueness in the most unassuming places. I grew up in a similar neighborhood in Newark New Jersey and vividly remember coming home from classical piano lessons and tap dance class to police sirens. This photo piece is printed on canvas.
