Paris – Pont Alexandre III: Limited Edition of 10 in HDChromaLux® on Aluminum This image is from my first trip to Paris in 1969. It was originally a Kodachrome®slide. (You are probably not old enough to remember that era. Kodachrome was a new process where the three primary colors were developed separately. The result was a pleasing, crisp image tending toward the blue side.) As I took the picture, I remember palpably feeling the souls of all the artists who had preceded me in Paris, guiding and encouraging me to be the best artist I could be. Years later I had it scanned to a print, and even then it languished in a moving box. I didn’t intend for the image to look like this, but something magical happened as I was working it up in Photoshop®. The final result was a pinkish monochrome image which seemed to fit the setting of “La vie en rose”. It also looks old – very old – as if it could have been a Daguerreotype. I decided to keep all the imperfections rather than to make it look new. Many of my best images are such happy accidents. This is a Special Limited Edition of 10 in true vivid colors printed in HD Chromalux® on aluminum ready-to-hang. Printing doesn't get any better than this. I hope that you too can sense the weight of history when you view this image. May it bring back happy memories for you.

Betty Dabney is a retired professor of public health who has been a serious photographer for over twenty years. She has won awards in juried shows, had one-person shows, and exhibited in prestigious galleries. She says, “I strive to capture the essence of a subject, to make it seem more real than reality itself.” There is no formula for her work. Each image is what the subject calls for, whether it be color or black & white, contemporary or antique, figurative or abstract. Originally a painter, her work has a luminous, painterly quality that can make the viewer wonder if the image was real or not. She cites the Impressionists, Paul Cézanne, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eliot Porter, and Ansel Adams as major influencers of her work. She does not work in a studio. Rather, she captures colours and compositions in the real world with her artistic vision that beauty is everywhere; we only need look for it. The common thread running through all of her work is to evoke a reaction of pleasant surprise, for the viewer to think, “WOW – That is so beautiful!” Her work engages the viewers at a deep level and shows them how to see the world in new ways. After all, that is the nature and purpose of art. Come, let us make this beautiful journey together.
