Inspired by my wife who quilts, I’m exploring the use of photographic images as elements of quilt patterns creating what I categorize as PhotoQuilts. My work uses the juxtaposition of disparate visual elements to create a new synthesis or digital collage. I love to play with color, natural/architectural patterns and textures. This piece uses a leaf and water.

My first exposure to the making of art was at Beloit College. I nearly flunked out of Beloit with a major in Biology; to much time in the Art Department welding. Spent two years in the Army followed by a year studying studio art at Murray State University majoring in both printmaking and sculpture. Basketball, which I'd played in college and the Army still had allure and put me in Portugal playing ball and doing photography and collage. Back in the states, I completed an MFA at Massachusetts College of Art, concentrating on posters, independent Super -8 film and video production. I started playing folk music which ultimately kindled a desire to build musical instruments. Over the next 36 years I created James Jones Instruments.come. I continue to build instruments but I have never lost interest in the arts. I'm now spending a little more time "being creative". I’ve rekindled my interest in collage exploring the use of photographs as elements of quilt patterns creating what I categorize as photo quilts.
