The charming and isolated village of Port Costa, Califonia - as viewed from a historic rail facility in Benicia, California. Taken in early spring, one can see the cherry trees in bloom. Before there were bridges spanning San Francisco Bay - railcars from all over the United States would arrive here, the cars then separated and loaded onto barges. The barges would carry the railcars across this stretch of water to Port Costa. There the trains would be reassembled and continue to Oakland and San Francisco (which required another barge trip).
