This is a photograph made on the island of Santorini Greece and is featured the my book, The Greek File: Images of a Mythic Land published by Rizzoli in 2001. The image is of a copy of a book of poems by Ranier Maria Rilke on the edge of the Aegean Sea.

William Abranowicz has been a photographer for nearly 40 years. His work is found in collections throughout the world, both public and private including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, ICP, The Getty Museum, The Menil Collection Library, The National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Museum, The National Portrait Gallery of London, Biblitheque Nationale, The Newark Museum, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Thessaloniki Museum, the Goulandris Museum and others. Abranowicz’s work has appeared in nearly every major publication in the United States, Europe, and Asia. He served as a contributing photographer to Condé Nast Traveler for 25 years, and has created campaigns for brands such as American Express, Rolex, Gap, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Gold Peak, Estée Lauder, Eddie Bauer, Orvis, and Tiffany&Co., among others. Abranowicz is master printer and has worked with the negatives of Edward Steichen, George Hoyningen-Huene, and Michael Disfarmer, as well as Horst P. Horst and George Tice. He taught photography at Parsons School of Design and The New School, and was an artist-in-residence at Peters Valley in Layton, New Jersey. Along with his son and daughter, Abranowicz is a licensed falconer. He is an avid environmentalist engaged in water, land, and climate issues nationally and locally. Abranowicz lives in Bedford, New York with his wife, Andrea Raisfeld, a location agent. He is represented by Art + Commerce.
