Part of a larger project named "Roman Buses", which inspects the relation between a place and the people moving on this place, or, in other words, between a complicated city and its inhabitants. Public transports aren't very popular in Italy, and this is even more true in Rome. The Eternal City has two subway lines (a third is under construction), some surface trains, and an enormous number of buses. I didn't search for peculiar faces to portrait and I didn't want to create a reportage about public transport in Rome. The main focus of this work is on people moving in an ancient metropolis, passing by monuments or suburban apartment blocs, most of the time without even noticing the difference: because living in a place could weaken the ability of seeing the beauty in it. Images taken between 2009 and 2015.

Gabriele Gelsi's work investigates the usual and the ordinary: his subjects are conventional places, objects, and people we can find and meet everywhere. His photography shows a different perspective on a usual situation: the relationship between shapes of objects, bodies and spaces brings out the unexpected harmony present in everyday life, thus awakening amazement in the ordinary. His images avoid any ornament, responding to the desire to show the essence of the subject without artifice, without distractions. Reality should not be hidden or transmuted but must be embellished: light and composition place a veil of wonder on the ordinary, renewing the gaze on what is usual. After achieving a BA in History of Theatre at University of Trieste (my born city) I moved to Rome where I got a MA degree in Historical Research Methodology while starting to work constantly with theatres and theatrical companies as stage photographer. I moved to Reading, UK, where I initially worked as portrait photographer. I am currently curator at The Caversham Picture Framer, an independent art gallery.
