PRINT DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Schism" This is a bold and jarring image of a tram track where it intersects at the exterior of the Museum of Modern Pop at Seattle Center. The unusual shape created by the adapted metal plating that wraps the outside of the building offers a stunning contrast to the straightforwardness of the track. Implying a desperateness when an intersection of bold coloration is abruptly interrupted by this massive and dark channel of concrete mass. This is the counterintuitive cross-section of materials and an attraction that is hard to resist. Neither could I when I saw this and excited when I realized the drama that I captured within the confines of structural integrity still. Bold and indifferent, forward moving, strong and consistent. Form versus formlessness. Color versus colorlessness. The diametric extremes are enticing. Brandon LeValley (1954) is a photographic artist from the United States. In 1976 he graduated from Washington State University where he studied Art. His passion for photography was fueled early in life when he was still shooting film and utilizing a darkroom to process images. Holding a final print offered a world of experience seeing how the light on a subject materialized. Years later he realized the digital camera had revolutionized processing. Today, he converts most images to black and white and shoots botanicals for their dramatic line and shape. He’s also drawn to architecture and landscapes. Living near Joshua Tree National Park provides many compelling compositions that come from his explorations. While his journey in photography has evolved, his passion is still ignited by subject matter. A unique image, he believes, comes about by a disciplined and oftentimes exhaustive approach. Knowing the payoff can be so rewarding, that commitment to detail ultimately renders a more compelling work.
