Scotts Hut , Cape Evans, Antarctica Print

Scott's Hut is a building located on the north shore of Cape Evans on Ross Island in Antarctica. It was erected in 1911 by the British Antarctic Expedition of 1910–1913 (also known as the Terra Nova Expedition) led by Robert Falcon Scott. I visited with the Greenpeace World Park Expedition of 88-89 when the environmental organisation erected a overwintering base near to Scotts Hut. We were allowed entry by the New Zealand Antarctica base who held the keys. This was in the days before tourism kicked off in the Antarctica nd the hut was not visited very often. It was remarkable. The remnants of the expeditions supplies were still stacked where they had been left when the remaining expedition members were taken off in 1913.
