Confirmations of the existence of gravitational waves were always indirect before September 2015 when scientists detected the waves produced by the collision of 2 black holes. This series of work refers to progressions in physics contributing to the understanding of Supermassive Black Holes which scientists believe exist at the centre of every galaxy. Although these objects are integral to how the universe behaves, scientists have a limited understanding of how they work due to the fact they can't directly observe them. They can now listen to gravitational waves in order to learn more about black holes and other objects producing them, this idea of observing one phenomenon to learn about another is an important part of my work.

My art practice is inspired by our connection to the universe and our understanding of it. Exploring the way in which scientific understanding shapes how we view the universe highlights how one discovery can change the way we see our own existence. I contemplate our place within the universe and how we attempt to conceive theories to explain it. I am inspired by the concept of how we as humans tend to operate at a surface level on a day to day basis, accepting reality for how it appears. With my practice I force the viewer to contemplate the invisible workings which combine to create our reality. As part of my practice I create installations in dark spaces which the viewer enters and becomes submersed. There is no reference to the outside world in the spaces and the viewer cannot make sense of the dimensions. I use minimal light to create the illusion of forms which are suspended in infinite darkness. As the viewer moves through the space the forms change, causing them to question the assumptions they first made. My photographs are produced directly from the installations.
