ABOUT THE ARTWORK

From the photogram collection: "Stories from my Heritage" This photogram explores traditional domestic Indian narratives from the point of view of an outsider - the Indian diaspora. I use the darkroom to manually document fictitious scenes from my Indian heritage, symbolically merging fact and fiction using the traditional photographic process. The narrative is de-contextualised to enable viewers to project their own worldviews to complete the picture. The ethereal quality of lines is achieved by hand-drawing the image on acetate using fine liners, markers and oil pastels - the acetate is then processed in the darkroom using traditional cameraless photographic techniques. Exposing the drawing to light creates a print without a camera on photographic paper, resulting in a modern and contemporary finish perfect for adorning a wide range of spaces. Photo Rag Baryta paper Frame specifications: Black wooden framed photograms include a hand-signed white (PH-neutral) window mount and fixed sawtooth hangers ready for display. The frame comprises classic straight lines with a clear acrylic perspex for added protection.
