ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The work is part of a series of 5 photographs taken with a camera obscura on medium format film. The individual photographs have been exposed on randomly cut medium format strips in different sizes. The height is always 50 cm, the width varies. I. In terms of content, the work visualizes the change from winter to spring. The sun shines, nature is fresh green, but in the evening it gets cold and the fireplace comes into play. Two levels of perception are haptically and tactile, as well as thematized in terms of content. The work is basically based on the thesis that we have lost the handling of materials through digitization, so these become tangible and visible in my using a camera obscura and an analog medium format film that is used differently from the usual procedure. After the photographic exposure with the camera obscura, there is a second experimental form of exposure, here my wood stove is of great importance.

In my artistic work I pursue two photographic perspectives. One concerns seeing and the situational reaction to external processes, for which I use digital photography. On the other hand, I work analogue, with the camera obscura and sheet films as recording media. This allows me a technical flexibility in the generation of images that cannot be implemented with digital photography. In contrast to the former, these images are created in the head and are not based on sight. The origin of the images lies in an introspection, which I then experimentally transfer technically to the medium of photography. Both objective information and subjective experiences, comments, emotions and sensory impressions play together and allow us to speak of socially critical and culturally relevant topics.
