About The Artwork

Image size: 22"x 22" with 1" white border Inkjet Print on Hahnemuhle Photorag 308 GSM The destruction that Hurricane Sandy caused was immense. Growing up just on the other side of the bridge that connects the town I grew up in and Seaside Heights, I had personally witnessed the scope of its calamitous path. One image that became emblematic of the storm was the Star Jet Coaster resting in the Atlantic after Casino Pier on which it was perched, collapsed. This photo was taken Christmas morning, 2012, just two months after Hurricane Sandy struck the East Coast. Five months later, in May 2013 over the course of 48 hours, its skeletal remains were torn down by a demolition company and became part of the past. The surreal color cast that washes over this image is a result of photographing on expired Kodak duplicating slide film. I feel the effect is pertinent. Otherworldly, yet it is our world and how our choices affect our own outcome and the environment that we share.
