Since 2021, I have been working primarily with photography. ----- There is only form. Nothing else. For me, issues of vision and recognition may sometimes come afterward. Even so, there is only form there. Nothing else. ----- Conscious perception cannot exist without the frameworks of language, images, and categorization. Yet sensations prior to perception must remain within us as signs, however faint. An unfamiliar form may guide us toward them. But cultural codes will surely not allow it. They will subordinate perception to meaning. When Monet sought to capture the shimmer of light and atmosphere, when Cézanne layered the fragments he called “petits sensations,” when Kandinsky and Mondrian eliminated the object entirely to establish abstraction— it was, in fact, the emergence of a new cultural code. And yet, form is still there. Simply there.
