Submerged flowers - Magical Foxgloves Print

Part of my new project for 2024, called Transience, where I am exploring the circle of life and imperfect beauty through plants, by attempting to capture the fleeting, transcient moments in time/life using the 4 elements. For each flower or plant I delve into its history, associated Folklore and myths, meanings and uses to build up a personality of the flower. I then create images based on some of the information, using the psychology and meanings of colours to support the story, as well as other techniques such as different applications of liquid mediums or smoke etc Foxgloves are known by many names including Fairy thimbles, witch’s gloves and dead man’s bells. Foxgloves often nod their heads even when there is no wind, it is said they are acknowledging passing fairies. Planting it in the garden may grant your house protection. It is said to attract fairies and according to legend, the white spots inside each bell are marks left by fairies. Dew collected from the blossoms is used in spells for communicating with fairies. As Foxgloves are strongly associated with Fairies, witches and magic, I chose to create an ethereal appearance in this one by using milk and adding pink ink for the fairies and glitter for magic
