ARTIST STATEMENT I grew up in a gem-city on the Canadian prairies – a city full of life, energy, sky, river, and art. Saskatoon. A city of intensity and extremes, with an unending supply of fertile images. The miracle of a Polaroid camera led me into the world of photography as a young boy and I have been living there ever since. I use mostly fixed lenses and natural light – colour for equal emphasis of visual/mental and mood/emotional, B&W to emphasize mood and unconscious connections. The intensity, feeling, and mood are captured through timing in dynamic images and composition in static images. My goal is to create intense photographs that offer us the opportunity to stop and reflect on our feelings, thoughts, dreams, motivations, prejudices, obsessions that we miss as we speed through the moments of our lives, too busy or distracted to take that time. An amazing photograph evokes new connections each time we are in its presence. It captures us and gives us back the energy it holds. I live in Vancouver, Canada.
