About the Artist

Rene Pfluger

Switzerland

Rene Pfluger is a Swiss photographer based between Zurich and Mürren in the Bernese Alps. For over ten years, his work has centred on alpine landscapes — not as documentation, but as physical experience.

Under the name maletg — Relief des Lichts, he combines historic German large-format lenses with high-end digital photography — fusing both into a new way of seeing alpine landscapes, where precision and poetry become one.

Larger works are printed on hand-folded Japanese washi paper using a multi-layer pigment process. The micro-folded surface creates a subtle three-dimensional relief: incoming light refracts across it, giving the image a spatial presence no flat surface can replicate. Framed in oiled oak behind non-reflective museum glass.

Each work exists in a strict edition of three, plus one Artist Proof.

His work is organised under three lines — Cler (sharp, precise), Sfümar (deliberate blur and diffusion) and Sömi (image transfer, unique pieces) — each answering the same question with a different degree of control over light.
