About the Artist

Carla Cuomo

Italy

I am an Italian artist working between Lisbon, Naples and London.

My work begins with a need to question the power of images — how they seduce, construct and distort what we believe to be real. Through photography, I explore emotional states that feel both deeply personal and universally shared: loneliness, abandonment, the fear of being seen, and the quiet fragility of failure.

I am interested in the poetry of ordinary moments, in the way light, bodies and spaces can transform the familiar into something emotionally charged. My practice is a constant search for a balance between the poetic and the raw, where beauty and imperfection exist together without hierarchy.

Working mainly through self-portraiture, still life and observational photography, I create images that inhabit the space between reality and fiction, document and dream, memory and something more collective, almost unconscious. Rather than offering fixed meanings, I want my photographs to remain open, inviting viewers to bring their own memories and emotions into the work.

I am drawn to themes of sexuality, mysticism, body language and nature, using them to build visual narratives that are intimate yet quietly unsettling, spaces where vulnerability, ambiguity and discomfort are allowed to coexist without resolution.
