ABOUT THE ARTWORK
After a long walk under a canopy of lush greenery, we find ourselves approaching the once-upon-a-time Moorish castle and the idiosyncratic Pena Palace. Regarded as the "Versailles of Portugal" — the magical Pena Palace bursts with pastel colours and Moorish architectural influence. In the mid-19th century, the flamboyant Prince Ferdinand built this fantasy, mixing architectural styles into a crazy Neo-fortified casserole of Gothic towers, Renaissance domes, Moorish minarets, and Disney playfulness. The palace's elegantly cluttered rooms are just as they were in 1910, when the king fled during a popular revolt. As the sun was moving into its afternoon position, I looked up and saw it vanishing behind the outline of the incredible palace before me. I grabbed my camera and captured that moment on a wide 10mm lens - trying to snare as much of the structural majesty as I could manage.
