ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Last year, my son and I were asked to follow and document the life of a well known and very successful European entrepreneur on his trip to Tokyo and Kamakura. As Japan was one place I'd never visited, I was not going to pass up the opportunity to try some actual Japanese food and see the peaceful tranquility of the Great Buddha in Kamakura, get a true feeling of the Buddhist Culture and Traditions, especially when everything was paid for by my client. Tokyo is an interesting, clean and beautifully designed city; vibrant and full of life, wealth, plenty of Sushi and fresh fish and what they call 'Maids'.. Best Google that one as I should not get into that discussion. I didn't actually find out what these 'Maids' were doing handing out leaflets on street corners until after I returned to London. It's not exactly what you might think.. I did ask them in English what they were doing but none of them spoke my language unfortunately. Thank you Internet for yet again being an aid to the ignorant. The Art scene in Tokyo is overflowing and we managed to get to several galleries full of Black & White Street Photography, as well as their Tokyo National Art Centre (an amazing architectural structure,, where we saw a great combination of Abstract work, plenty of Conceptual pieces, wonderful sculpture and loads of black and white photography. We had a fantastic time in Tokyo, Japan, and I'm proud to release some of my images for you to enjoy that document our time spent there. The food was wow. Oh, and the Japanese are absolutely bonkers for Ice Cream.. Oh, lastly but very importantly, All my work is printed on the most beautiful and sublime of papers, Museum Grade 310 Gram Heavyweight Archival Rag; Matt with the slightest of texture. When you hold this print in your hands, you will sigh the sigh of your great love for Art. (see the close-up in the images) Also of great importance: The print size here is a lovely and large 24 x 16 inches, but If you need a different size, please send me a message and I'll adjust the price accordingly. I will accommodate you very happily. ES

Eliot Siegel (that's me..) was born at St Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan in October of 1958. (They've torn it down, so sad) When Black & White Photography was offered for the first time in my NY high school, (1974) I jumped at the chance and a great passion was born. Continuing in photography and psychology at University, I studied fine art, portraiture and fashion. Back in the real world, (1980) after 4 years as assistant fashion photographer in NYC, I packed up and moved to Milan, Italy for 4 years, then Paris and finally settling in London as a fashion magazine and fashion advertising photographer. I was fortunate enough to have worked for British Vogue, GQ, Manner Vogue, (Munich) Italian Harper's Bazaar, (Milan) L'Officiel (Paris) and quite a few more. Before I had left for Milan in 1985, I'd worked in NYC for Cosmopolitan and Essence magazines. I Always kept my heart in the Fine Art mode, throughout my career.
