Ukrainian artist Roksolana Ugrynuk poses tied in wood. She is in the role of a captive forest Mavka. Mavka is a character of Ukrainian mythology. In the Ukrainian language, the name mavka is synonymous with the word mermaid. According to a few Ukrainian beliefs, mavkas appeared on earth at a time "when the earth was covered with spring greenery." Mavka was often described as a beautiful young girl with long green or blue hair. According to folk beliefs, monkeys were going to dance on the lawns, sometimes they played the flute. Mavkas wore thin translucent shirts or walked naked. When they met the man, mavkas tried to lure him into the thicket with seductive conversations, and then tickled the victim to death. If a moth lured a man into the woods, he had to take off his shirt and put it inside out. This frightened the mavka, and she ran away.
