Contact us.Yury is a photographer working in the genre of ambient photography. His work explores atmospheric landscapes, still lifes, and graphic scenes through the poetry of light, the meditative power of form, and the quiet dynamism of the moment. Humans rarely appear in his shots—only when they are an integral part of the story.
His creative journey began in 1974 with the legendary Smena-8M camera and nighttime printing in his home lab. Experience with watercolor and tempera shaped his painterly sense of color, and his passion for mountaineering in the 1980s led to shooting with the medium-format Lyubitel-166V camera and his first publications in magazines and calendars.
Today, Yury harmoniously combines the aesthetics of analog film and the precision of digital technology. His mastery of monochrome photography has been recognized by the international 35AWARDS, where his work was ranked in the TOP 4% of the best black-and-white photographs.
Yury A. Melnikov offers his heartfelt gratitude to those fellow photographers who inspire him to pursue his work and expand his photographic horizons:
Evgeny Timashev,
Steve O’Neions,
Martin Henson,
Wolfgang Moersch,
Ludwig Römer.
