“an embrace with thunder” is one of three in the photo series shot by imani Q: “a city that breathes”. the series observes and personifies this building in Denver, CO, as well as the street it lives on. for imani, there’s something in the domineering way this building reaches toward the sky with its curve positioned like arms, reminiscent of a child demanding to be lifted off the ground; it stands just as grandiose, immovable, and inevitable as hope itself. the varying contrast in each panels can offer a parallel to the dynamic ranges and many complex facets of that concept: hope is standing ten toes down on the darkest of days, being honest about and accepting of the darkness that may be within, and most importantly: embracing the thunder.
