speaking in color bari wieselman schulman is a modern abstract painter and mixed-media artist obsessed with color, language (and color as language), and the ways in which art and art objects invite dialogue and carry meaning in(to) the world. a divergent thinker with an intuitive and experimental process, her work challenges us to see, feel, and think differently, encouraging connection with our neuropsychological sense of self. bari’s work is the translation, the visual embodiment, the communication of an intense mind in constant motion. getting things out on paper to see and touch, playing with perspective, manipulating, feeling, exploring, her work makes manifest the experience of seeing in color, thinking in color, speaking in color, being in color as perceivable color, form, concept. chaotic coherence, coherent chaos – a world where color, gesture, and contrast are the medium, and introspection, meaning-making, dialogue, connection, and evolved openness are the message. chicago-born and rooted in madrid, bari received a phd in psychology from the university of chicago and spent years in the design world working at the intersection of people, brands, and products. her background in language and behavior provides a unique window into the relationships between humans, objects, and spaces, and is a critical frame of reference for her work. always a creative and a creator, she eventually shifted from design to dedicate herself fully to her artwork, founding her studio, rethinkreframe, with her husband after a pivotal shift in her thinking — the realization that her divergent mind was not a vulnerability but a strength. the formalization of her practice as an artist (and her studio as an object in the world) enables her to articulate an infinitely flexible space in which she can freely create (anything) and connect with those who seek out the bold, the vivid, the evocative, the thought-provoking, the dialogic, the extraordinary… bari has shown her work nationally and abroad with the gallery, jackson junge gallery, visionary projects, blue shop gallery, saatchi's the other art fair, rostrum | 312, sergio gomez, the martin, atelier, west end gallery, madewell, the art center highland park, peninsula art center, and woman made gallery, and received a minted independent artist day jury prize award.
