This work is part of the project "Mnemonic Devices". Four poems by four women with tragic destinies, Sylvia Plath, Alda Merini, Alejandra Pizarnik and Marina Tsvetaeva are encoded into Quick Response codes and seamlessly embedded within a frame of nonsense QR codes in order to render a still life. In the ancient Greek myth of Persephone returning to her mother Demeter from the underworld, pomegranates symbolise her coming back to life and yet still imbued with death, a feeling that haunted the lives of all four Poets. Pears symbolise fragility, femininity and immortality, attributes that characterise their work. A delicate butterfly stands on the edge of the bowl as a symbol of the human soul. A chameleon seems to vanish into the shade referencing to the hidden content of the painting. Try and find all poems by scanning the painting with your cell phone! www.modestandfurious.art This limited printed edition is available on Fine Art Paper, Hahnemüle Museum Etching 350g. It is strongly suggested that fine art paper prints be protected with anti-glare or anti-reflective glass in order to allow for easy reading of the QR codes within the piece. Depending on your mobile phone you may need a dedicated app in order to successfully scan these QRs: Scandit, QR Code, QRbot, QR Reader are just some examples.

In my artistic practice, I delve into the intricate languages of memory, exploring the captivating processes of memory creation, storage, and retrieval within the depths of our minds. I am particularly fascinated by the mechanisms that allow certain memories to be suppressed by our conscious will or repressed through the mysterious pathways of our unconscious world. Through my work, I aim to investigate the multifaceted nature of memory. I am intrigued by how memories, stored on the shelves of our minds, undergo distortion over time, with fragments lost and distinct portions intermingling to give birth to new amalgamations. I contemplate how the passage of time decomposes certain memories while rigidly preserving others.
