About The Artwork
This piece develops my interest in typography as an image and how the forms and composition of words can evoke a sense of place. The typeface used is LDN Mammoth, based on woodblock types used in London playbill posters. In The City is named after the debut track by the Jam, a punk classic written from the standpoint of a young man trying to escape suburbia and the magnetism and potential that the city held. The result is a visual collision of energy and excitement that match the music's sounds, sentiment and mood. My work seeks to create imagery that references different points of cultural history and can convey multiple meanings to the viewer with visually appealing forms.

My work is informed by emotional responses to colour and the figurative and abstract forms found in natural and urban settings. I have produced creative works for high profile museums and galleries including the V&A and the RA, London. Recent MA study in Art and Design has taken my practice in a typographic/pop-cultural direction. I will continue to develop the work through visual experimentation to produce art that communicates the artistic intention to the viewer in a visually compelling manner.
