ABOUT THE ARTWORK

When the Director at school found out that I was pregnant, he called me to his office and said, “You have to leave our school immediately because you are pregnant." From that day, I lived life, I lived a life, Not my life. Because that was not my life Because that was not my choice Was it my wayward ways? Was it because I was naïve? Was it because I wasn't educated enough? Today, months have passed. He is no more my love… It’s not what we call… LOVE My family walked with me in caring silence Until I was ready To hold my child hands in my hands... I thought my life in this new land Would be full of exciting adventures But as it turned out I had to spend some troubling years Just to get my head around me, my child, my life, my future. Now I walk the same land With a newfound hope A spring in my step And instead of finding myself a man I have found comfort In living with my child.

I’m Danielle, an Austin-based Mixed media textile self-taught artist, hails from Austin Texas where she developed her passion and artistic creativity. My artworks address social, and cultural needs, and are intended to empower and support women while promoting identity and inclusion as a global heritage. My goal is to unleash the intense desire to create artworks full of rich layers that incorporate elements of historical textile, objects, and text, to evoke a sense of human nature and reality, with a quality of timelessness and honor to those individuals now passed, that have led the way. In addition, In a journey to contribute to the community identity, and social wellbeing as well as raising awareness of gender-based violence, I share stories esthetically produced in unique, creative, and cultural designs. I create artworks from cultural perspectives, through various sewing techniques, drawing, and digital design. I use various types of fabrics that I pair with a variety of traditional and modern objects like horns, moss, cowries shells, pearls, wood, mirrors, and more. I also sometimes add a touch of acrylic paintings to some artworks. Behind each piece of art, there is a story. Stories are around gender-based violence, social wellbeing, as well as International Culture Exchange. I strongly believe that Valuable cultural exchange is mutual and offers the opportunity for deeper and prolonged commitment between people and encourages responsible global citizenry. Danielle is also passionate of fashion and loves to share her collections of versatile outfits. You can visit her online at or on Instagram danielle.mb.
