Much of my art focuses on women and the female form. I often have them half hidden but almost always with a direct gaze at the onlooker. This placement of females being hidden but defiant is not a conscious decision as I always work organically and on instinct, but now that I have come to recognise this in my work I wonder the reasons behind this particular portrayal of women, and I wonder if it is partly generational. I grew up during the cusp of when women were coming out of the shadows more strongly than ever. Refusing to only be considered for their appearance or home making skills and demanding more rights in society. Growing up during these times of change I saw and experienced them first hand and maybe the many contradictions in which women were living through still bear weight inside me; the hiding, yet strong defiance and always being prepared to pounce out of the shadows when needed. Please be aware that due to the many layers of ink placed by individual linoblocks there will be embossing and textural anomalies as well as speckles of ink on the margins, these marks are proof of the craft and handmade nature of my work. Materials I’ve used are Somerset satin 250gsm and oil based inks Dimensions 38.5 x 58 cm (unframed) / 31 x 41 cm (actual image size) Edition size Limited edition of 10

Years of travel and living abroad are the reasons why Alison’s chosen subjects are so varied. Born in Brazil and nearly two decades living in Italy she sees the world full to the brim with fascinating subjects to portray. Having studied illustration and fashion design and then gaining a BA in Fine Arts, Alison has a wide experience of diverse art methods and styles. But it was a lucky chance encounter with a printmaker that she tried her hand at linocutting and finally knew she had found the perfect process for her and her style of work. Alison’s main priority when creating art is to reach a perfect balance of colour and composition whatever the subject matter. As long as it is pleasing to the eye she feels her work is done. Her linocuts have been exhibited in many group shows including at the Bankside Gallery, OXO Tower and the Royal Academy of Arts. Alison has also been featured in the respected Pressing Matters publication. You can also find her work at the Dorchester Hotel London.
